REINDEER FOOD! Reindeer Food Recipe!

FEEDING SANTA’S REINDEER

Santa isn’t the only part of this trip around the world.  His reindeer are just as important.  Explaining to the little ones that reindeer need to eat on their journey and telling them you happen to have a recipe for flying reindeer food gets them excited all over again on yet another magical day.

Simply write a recipe down on paper and put it in a special cook book you have or old book you have somewhere.

Once you write the recipe, wrinkle up the paper and make it look as old as possible. And name the recipe something like “Reindeer Food and Flying Aide.”  Also put a disclaimer that they see that it’s only for reindeer and children should never even taste it. Let them go with you to get it out of the book and hold it as though it was something very special that only you possess.  Get all the ingredients out that you purchased ahead of time and let the fun begin.  Help them measure out the correct amounts and stir the food up really good.  Set aside until the day of the party or Christmas Eve.  It’s best if you make several small sandwich bags to keep this all in so it doesn’t get all over the place.

REINDEER FOOD RECIPE
In a mixing bowl combine:
  • 1/4 cup oatmeal
  •  1/4 cup silver or gold glitter
  •  sprinkle of red or green sugar crystals (as with cake decorating)
The amounts do not have to be exact, but if you are planning on handing out reindeer food as gifts to children at a party, for example, adjust the amounts in the recipe to however many people will be receiving it.  Add whatever you like to the recipe, we normally add the glitter later and get excited showing the kids the night before Christmas that the magic is starting to work.  We point out the shiny glitter (normally glitter is used in movies to make things fly and for magic appearance).

REINDEER FOOD POEM

Sprinkle on the lawn at night

The moon will make it sparkle bright

As Santa's reindeer fly and roam

This will guide them to your home.

Scoop out a good amount into a small zipper lock bag or baby food jar.  If you are using a zipper lock bag, you can put the poem inside the bag along with the reindeer food.  If you are using a baby food jar, you can cut a circle of cloth or felt a bit larger than the lid.  Place over the lid and tie a ribbon around it to decorate!

*Note: Do not use glitter if you think there is a chance the children who receive your reindeer food baggies will eat it. Simply use colored sugar crystals, and the oatmeal instead!

The Palm Beach Post Reviews CREATING HOLIDAY MAGIC & FAMILY TRADITIONS!

THE PALM BEACH POST REVIEW OF CREATING HOLIDAY MAGIC!
Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
WELLINGTON —
Kimberly Joy Castellotti and her husband, Thomas Ward, are the McGyvers of fun.
With some paper and glitter — maybe a funny hat and a few items from a dollar store — they can create a wacky game, a crazy holiday party and ultimately, their goal — a treasured family memory.
“We believe in making a party out of everyday life,” said Castellotti. She and Ward are Wellington Realtors and are devoted to their two sons, Anthony, 9 and Austin, 7.

They go to inexpensive but elaborate lengths for daily events as simple as bath time or as universal as losing a childhood tooth. Before long, friends and neighbors started showing up to see what creative ideas the duo had cooked up.

An Easter egg hunt might include clues hidden in hollowed-out eggs.

The Fourth of July meant a game of Bomb Bocce, tossing harmless smoke bombs into a hula hoop to score points.

Birthday photos are always taken with the same cartoon hat.

Mother’s Day one year involved a kid-written rap song; Father’s Day was a silly game show.

“We just wanted to get them away from computers,” said Ward, who comes up with most of the schemes. The Navy veteran even learned to do magic tricks and make balloon animals, just to amuse his boys.

The couple’s party-making joie de vivre became legendary, and soon people were urging them to put their ideas in a book.

When the real estate market stalled a few years ago, Castellotti and Ward finally had time to write their book. They worked on it at night, after their boys were asleep. Their goal is to teach parents simple, non-commercial ways to have more family fun.

This summer, they published Creating Holiday Magic and Family Traditions: Creative and Unique Ideas to Make Unforgettable Memories on Any Budget, which is available for $14.95 on Amazon or through their website, www.choiceplusrealestate/holidaybookpage.

“We wanted to put magic and awe into our kids’ lives,” Castellotti said. “As it turns out, a lot of other people wanted to learn to do the same thing.”

What’s your favorite movie?
Kimberly Joy: The Back to the Future trilogy. Tom: Caddyshack.
What’s playing on your iPod?
Kimberly Joy: Motley Crue and Katy Perry. Tom: Shinedown, Trace Adkins.
What’s your favorite place to take your kids?
The Singer Island beach. It’s all new, clean, and there is no fee for parking.
Do you have a motto?
Kimberly Joy: “You can have everything you want in this life. It is all about timing.” Tom: “Never worry about things you can’t control.”
Tell us the most important things in your lives.
Jesus and our family.

This review is from: Creating Holiday Magic and Family Traditions - Creative & Unique Ideas to Make Unforgettable Family Memories on Any Budget (Kindle Edition)
This book is a life saver. As a working mom there are not enough hours in the day. I love any reason to celebrate but do not always have the time to set the theme or do to much. This book as put an end to that. I was able to find any occasion and the details were there to make it special in no time. I cannot wait for the holidays this year in fact the book is at the top of my gift list.
